19th Century English Regency Mahogany Sarcophagus Form Cellarette - A 19th century English Regency period mahogany cellarette, also known as a wine cooler, designed in a classic sarcophagus form. The mahogany case features a stepped, hinged lid with molded edges that opens to reveal a metal-lined interior. The interior is divided into six rectangular compartments designed for bottle storage, with the metal lining, likely lead or zinc, secured by small tacks along the top rim. The tapered body is supported by four turned wooden ball feet resting on a solid rectangular mahogany plinth base. A single metal keyhole escutcheon is centered on the front face of the chest. The primary material is mahogany with a metal secondary lining and dividers.
