Hand in Hand Fire and Life Insurance Society Antique Cast Lead Fire Mark - A cast lead fire insurance mark for the Hand in Hand Fire and Life Insurance Society. Founded in London in 1696, the Hand in Hand was one of the world's earliest insurance companies. The mark features the society's distinctive emblem of two clasped hands positioned beneath a royal crown. Below the central motif is an integral rectangular panel displaying the policy number 80585 cast in high relief. These plaques were designed to be affixed to the exterior of buildings to identify them to the company's private fire brigade. The piece exhibits the characteristic surface texture and weathering associated with long-term outdoor exposure.
