Early 19th Century Lambeth Salt-Glazed Stoneware Hunting Jug - An early 19th century salt-glazed stoneware hunting jug produced in the Lambeth district of London. The vessel features a bulbous body tapering to a narrow neck with a pinched pouring spout and a single applied loop handle. It is finished with a traditional two-tone glaze, featuring a dark brown ferruginous slip on the upper portion and a natural buff-colored salt glaze on the lower body. The piece is decorated with applied sprigged reliefs; the central motif depicts a seated man in a tavern setting smoking a long clay pipe and holding a tankard, flanked by large trees. A continuous hunting frieze encircles the lower section of the body, illustrating hounds in pursuit and a horse with a rider. While the body and base lack impressed factory marks, the underside retains a handwritten paper label identifying the item as early 19th century Lambeth stoneware.
