Bidspirit auction | A Pair of Milton Ware
A Pair of Milton Ware Hand-Painted Luster Double-Gourd Vases - A pair of Milton Ware double-gourd vases manufactured by the English firm Wait, Addison and Moore. These earthenware vases feature a mottled pale lilac ground under an iridescent mother-of-pearl luster glaze. Each vase is hand-painted with an Orientalist motif depicting a crane standing amidst a garden of stylized chrysanthemums and foliage in polychrome enamels. The narrow necks are finished with a decorative scrolling foliate band near the flared rims, which are accented with gilt. The base of each vase bears a printed factory mark in black featuring a crown over a circular emblem containing an intertwined monogram of W, A, and M, surrounded by the text Made in England. The marks also include the text Milton Ware and Reg Applied For. On one vase, the phrase Hand Painted appears above the crown, while on the second vase, it is located at the bottom of the mark.
