Bidspirit auction | A Twelve Piece Burleigh Ware
A Twelve Piece Burleigh Ware Zenith Shape Coffee Service in the Lily Pond Pattern - An Art Deco period earthenware coffee service manufactured by Burgess & Leigh Ltd. under the Burleigh Ware brand. The set is executed in the Zenith shape, an iconic Art Deco form featuring angular lines and stepped details on the handles and body. The Lily Pond pattern consists of a stylized landscape featuring silver birch trees with orange foliage, a body of water, and a yellow water lily. The decoration is applied via hand-painted enamels over a printed outline, with black-painted rims and handles highlighted in green and orange. The underside of the pieces features a green printed backstamp including the text REG. SHAPE 769493, ZENITH, and REG TRADE MARK. It also includes a boxed B & L LTD. over ENGLAND, and a bottom arc reading BURLEIGH WARE and ESTB 1851. The pattern name LILY POND is printed vertically alongside a stylized lily flower and a central crest depicting a beehive and wheat. Per the provided inventory, the lot consists of twelve pieces: one lidded coffee pot, one cream jug, one open sugar bowl, three cups, and six saucers.
