Marcus Bloch - Salmo Salar or Atlantic Salmon 1785 - This is an original hand-coloured engraving of the Atlantic Salmon (Salmo Salar) from Marcus Elieser Bloch'sOeconomische Naturgeschichte der Fische Deutschlands printed between 1785 and 1797. The copper-plate engravings were painted by hand with watercolours with many heightened with gold, silver and bronze to reproduce the wonderful metallic sheen of the fish scales. The results were truly spectacular and the print offered here is one of the most highly desirable and collectable of all natural history illustrations.
