A group of four medals to a Far East POW of the Japanese, Driver W Molyneux R Signals, Consisting of: 1939-45 Star, Pacific Star, War Medal 1939-45 and Territorial Efficiency Medal (GVIR 2nd Type), with additional service clasp, the last named to 3528780 Driver W Molineux R sigs. William Molyneux was a pre-war Territorial soldier who originally enlisted in to the Manchester Regiment and later transferred to the Royal Signals. Following the Outbreak of WW2 he was posted to Malaya to join the newly- formed 11th Indian Infantry Divisional Signals and was captured by the Japanese when the British Forces in Singapore surrendered on 15 February 1942. He was initially held in Changi on Singapore Island, then sent to work as a slave-Labourer in the infamous Klinaseki copper Mine on Formosa ( now Taiwan) and was finally transported to Osaka on Mainland Japan where he worked as a dock labourer in the Osaka Dockyards from May 1943 until he was liberated from the Tokyo POW camp o 2 September 1945. Some 27% of Allied POWs Died from Malnutrition, disease and ill-treatment whilst in the hands of the Japanese and up to 42% of those on Formosa were worked to death or died at the hands of their guards. So William Molyneux was a fortunate survivor. With Copies of his Japanese POW Registration card and FEPOW Liberation Questionnaire, a biographical note and some notes on Japanese POW camps. Very Fine.
