Portrait of a Young Woman by Nguyen Huyen, 35x56 cm, Pencil on paper. Nguyen Huyen (1915-1994) was a Vietnamese artist from Bac Ninh who studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de l'Indochine (1932-1936) and became one of the founding members of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association. He is historically notable for painting a portrait of President Ho Chi Minh in 1945 and for designing the back of the famous ”blue buffalo” 100-dong banknote in 1946, and is especially renowned for his lacquer paintings from the 1940s onwards.
