Lang Pagoda by Tran Duy, 29x44 cm, Ink and color on silk. Tran Duy (real name Tran Quang Tang, 1920-2014) was a Vietnamese silk painter born into a royal family in Hue, who studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de l'Indochine (Class 17, 1943-1945) and joined the resistance in 1947. Known as one of the last masters of the Vietnamese silk painting tradition, he was also secretary of the editorial office of the journal Nhan Van during the 1950s Nhan Van-Giai Pham affair. He was celebrated for his landscape silk paintings of pagodas, temples, and iconic Vietnamese scenery. Acquired in France.
