Lion Dance by Nguyen Tu Nghiem, 24x40 cm, Gouache on paper. Nguyen Tu Nghiem (1922-2016) was one of the ”Four Pillars” of modern Vietnamese painting, alongside Nguyen Sang, Bui Xuan Phai, and Duong Bich Lien. A graduate of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de l'Indochine, he became famous for his highly personal style drawing on folk sources, Dong Son bronze motifs, and the twelve zodiac animals in gouache and lacquer. He was awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize in 1996 for his lifelong contribution to Vietnamese fine art. Acquired in France.
