”Going to Battle” by Tu Duyen, 16x42 cm, Ink and color on silk. Tu Duyen (1915–2012), born Nguyen Van Duyen in Bat Trang, is celebrated as the father of Vietnamese hand-stamped silk painting (Thu An Hoa). After studying at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de l'Indochine, he developed a unique technique using positive and negative woodblocks with finger-applied colors pressed onto silk. His works, often inspired by Vietnamese folklore and literature such as The Tale of Kieu, are held in the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Museum, and were notably collected by David Rockefeller.
