”Boats on the River” by Lebadang, 58x43 cm, Color on paper. Le Ba Dang (1921–2015), known internationally as Lebadang, was a Vietnamese-French painter, engraver, and sculptor who emigrated to France in 1939 and studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Toulouse. He worked across painting, lithography, sculpture, and mixed-media ”Espaces,” blending Eastern motifs with Western modernism, and held his first major U.S. solo exhibition at the Cincinnati Art Museum in 1966. In 1994 he was awarded France's Order of Arts and Letters, and in 2006 the Le Ba Dang Art Foundation was inaugurated in Hue.
