Boats on the River by Tran Nguyen Dan, 48x70 cm, Color on paper. Tran Nguyen Dan (born 1941 in Bac Ninh) is a leading Vietnamese woodblock print artist and a graduate of the first class (1965-1970) of the Hanoi University of Industrial Fine Arts. Devoted almost exclusively to woodblock printing for nearly 50 years, he draws his subjects from Vietnamese landscapes, rural life, village festivals, and Old Quarter architecture; he received the State Award for Literature and Arts in 2007.
