[18TH CENTURY COSTUME] Un Jeune Matelot Racontant son Naufrage [The Young Shipwrecked Sailor…].  Duthe after W. R Bigg  Paris, Tassari & Co. [nd]. Colored aquatint, 13 x 15 platemark, with narrow margins. Possibly a pirated French edition after the original English work by William R. Bigg, a leading genre artist of the late 18th century.  It depicts a ship’s boy wearing sailors trousers and the typical striped shirt favored by seaman, approaching children at a cottage for assistance, the girls all wearing petticoats and chemises, over which are fastened stays and aprons, with straw hats or bonnets on their heads.  The boy in laborer’s jacket, and breeches with a round hat on his head. Unframed.
