Captain Henry Lockhart St John Fancourt DSO (1 April 1900 - 8 January 2004) was a British pioneering naval aviator, and held important aviation commands with the Fleet Air Arm during the Second World War. When Fancourt died at the age of 103, he was one of the last, if not the last, survivor who had actively been involved in the Battle of Jutland. Stanley Brian de Courcey Ireland He served in Royal Navy and was the youngest of all the service personnel with Buckland connections. As a Midshipman, aged 15, he served on the battleship HMS Bellerophon during the Battle of Jutland in May 1916. He was working in a main gun turret, which sank a German destroyer. In July 1917, while in Scapa Flow, he witnessed the accidental magazine destruction by explosion of HMS Vanguard when nearly 800 men were killed. He was involved in collecting remains of the crew. He served onboard the destroyer HMS Pellew, which was damaged by a U-Boat in Dec 1917. Stanley was rescued from a flooded compartment As a Sub Lieutenant onboard HMS Westcott, destroyer, in Nov 1918, he witnessed the surrender of the German High Seas Fleet and his ship escorted them to Scapa Flow.
