WW2 SOE Agents Maurice Buckmaster And Vera Atkins Signed FDC Rare. Colonel Maurice James Buckmaster OBE (11 January 1902 - 17 April 1992) was the leader of the non-Gaullist French section F of Special Operations Executive and was awarded the Croix de Guerre. On 17 March 1941, Buckmaster was appointed to SOE's French section and following an attachment to T-Section, the Belgian Section, to assist Hardy Amies from July 1941, he was noted as a future head of F Section.[14] This section recruited agents from among those Frenchmen who had not chosen to directly ally themselves with General Charles de Gaulle. Vera May Atkins CBE (15 June 1908 - 24 June 2000)[2] was a Romanian-born British intelligence officer who was the Deputy Director of the France Section (F Section) of the Special Operations Executive (SOE) from 1941 to 1945 during the Second World War. Though not a British national, in February 1941 Atkins joined the French section of the Special Operations Executive as a secretary. She was soon made assistant to section head Colonel Maurice Buckmaster, and became a de facto intelligence officer.[14] Atkins served as a civilian until August 1944, when she was commissioned as a Flight Officer in the Women's Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF).[15] In February 1944, Atkins was naturalised as a British subject.
