Cosmonaut Astronaut Dr. Clemens Lothaller signed Eighth Day of Flight Space Shuttle STS 41-G Challenger FDC. In October 1981 Lothaller began studying medicine at the University of Vienna. Shortly after starting his studies in 1982 he became a member of the Catholic student association KÖStV Austria Vienna in the ÖCV. After obtaining his doctorate from the University of Vienna in 1987, Lothaller was selected on October 6, 1989 as a cosmonaut of the Austrian group for the flight of a Soviet Soyuz spaceship to the Soviet Mir space station. He was next to Alexander Stepanovich Viktorenko (commandant) and Talghat Musabayev(Boarding engineer) in the substitute team for the Austrian Franz Viehböck, but was not used and left the program on October 10, 1991.
