Anders Lassen VC, MC of the SAS, hardback book by Mike Langley, 1988.Major Anders Frederik Emil Victor Schau Lassen (1920–1945) was a legendary Danish-born British commando and the only member of the SAS/SBS to be awarded the Victoria Cross. Over his daring World War II career, he also received the Military Cross (MC) three times. He was killed in action at age 24 during a ferocious nighttime assault on German positions at Lake Comacchio, Italy, on April 9, 1945. Leading a tiny patrol, Lassen single-handedly knocked out several enemy machine-gun nests with grenades, continuing to direct his men despite suffering mortal wounds. His relentless bravery allowed his unit to capture the position and secure the vital causeway. Lassen is interred at the Argenta Gap War Cemetery in Italy, and his medal group is displayed at the Museum of Danish Resistance in Copenhagen. Copies on Abebooks start at £30.
