RAF WW2 AVM A. D. Dick AFC signed RAF(75)24 75th ann of the RAF 30 sqn 1 Apr 1993 RAF FDC. Air Vice-Marshal David Alan Dick (CB, CBE, AFC, FRAeS) was a distinguished Royal Air Force pilot. He notably earned the Air Force Cross (AFC) for test-flying a Gloster Javelin that entered a flat spin at 40,000 feet, successfully ejecting at 8,000 feet while continuing to record vital data that solved spin recovery issues. Military Career & Ranks WWII Service: Commissioned as a pilot officer after training in India, he flew de Havilland Mosquitos on long-range photographic reconnaissance missions in Burma and later piloted Hawker Thunderbolts. Post-War Test Pilot: Attended the Empire Test Pilots' School in 1952, later serving as Superintendent of Flying at the Aeroplane and Armament Experimental Establishment (A&AEE) at Boscombe Down.
