Edleston (1949-2016) was a highly decorated Royal Navy officer known for his critical actions during the Falklands War and his extensive command and advisory roles. Born in January 1949 and educated at Wellington College, Edleston entered the Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth in 1967. He distinguished himself early in his career as the Senior Air Warfare Officer aboard the guided-missile destroyer HMS Glamorgan. During the closing days of the Falklands conflict in 1982, Glamorgan was struck by an Exocet missile. His quick thinking and decisive actions, including firing a Seacat missile and deploying chaff to distract the incoming threat, were credited with minimizing the lethality of the strike and saving lives.
