Sir Alan Cobham was an interwar aviation pioneer famous for establishing long-distance commercial air routes across the British Empire. The Destination: Lake Kivu (”KIV”), located on the border between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda. The Purpose: In the early 1930s, Cobham conducted extensive survey flights using aircraft fitted with specialized floats (often built by Short Brothers) to identify potential landing locations for commercial flying boat services across Africa. The National Aviation Day campaign, known as 'Cobham's Flying Circus', toured Great Britain, Ireland and South Africa giving many their first experience of flight. Cobham's Flying Circus toured between 1932 and 1935 taking 990,000 people on flights in his fleet of aeroplanes with over 3,000,000 people visiting the display. The incredibly successful campaign encouraged the nation to become more aware of aviation and also inspired many to fly themselves. The other autographs are on the back and need some research.
