Rigold and Bergmann Chromolithograph of Zarathustra - This large chromolithograph depicts the prophet Zarathustra, also known as Zoroaster, shown full-length in traditional white and cream priestly garments including a turban and flowing veil. The figure holds a flaming staff in his right hand and stands atop a stylized green geometric starburst. Behind his head is a radiant, multi-pointed star halo in green and gold. The composition is enclosed within an intricate decorative border featuring scrolling foliate and floral motifs in shades of blue, red, and ochre. The print is housed in a contemporary dark-stained, stepped wooden frame with a gilded inner fillet, protected by glass. The lower margin is inscribed with the publisher information: PUBLISHED BY B. RIGOLD & BERGMANN 82 BISHOPSGATE STREET WITHIN LONDON E.C. This London-based firm was a prominent exporter of religious and historical prints to the Indian market during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, catering largely to the Parsi community.
