A Late 19th Century Chinese Papier-mache Landscape Vase - A late 19th-century Chinese vase crafted from lacquered papier-mache. The vessel is designed in a tall baluster form with a high cylindrical neck and a widely flared rim. It is constructed from papier-mache layers finished in a deep reddish-black lacquer and rests upon a separate carved pedestal base with four scroll feet and gilded floral highlights. The exterior is elaborately decorated with polychrome landscape and figural scenes, featuring multi-tiered pavilions, bridges over water, and stylized pine and bamboo trees. Fine gold-tone work highlights the foliage and architectural details, complemented by a gilded Greek key border at the rim. No maker marks, inscriptions, or reign marks are visible on the vase or the stand.
