Bidspirit auction | 19th Century Hardwood Correction Chair
19th Century Hardwood Correction Chair - A 19th-century child's correction chair crafted from dark-stained hardwood. The chair features a characteristically high, narrow back designed to promote upright posture. It is constructed with three horizontal slats, each carved with a mustache or oxbow profile, set between two tall upright stiles. The frame is supported by two turned front legs with ring detailing and two square-section rear legs with a modest outward rake. The seat consists of an oval hardwood frame inset with hand-woven cane in a traditional octagonal pattern. Two side stretchers and one rear stretcher join the legs; however, the front horizontal stretcher is absent, leaving two exposed mortise holes on the inner faces of the front legs.
