J. Hamilton Glass SSA Watercolor and Gouache River Landscape - A late 19th or early 20th-century landscape painting executed in watercolor and gouache on paper. The work depicts a classic Dutch river scene under an overcast, atmospheric sky. A large windmill and a cluster of whitewashed cottages with red-tiled roofs dominate the right bank, while a gaff-rigged sailing vessel is moored on the water to the left. The composition is finished with light, impressionistic brushwork and a palette of muted greens, blues, and earth tones. The lower right corner of the painting bears a hand-painted signature in dark pigment reading J Hamilton Glass SSA. The work is presented in a dark wood frame with a cream-colored window mat. The reverse of the frame features a handwritten rectangular adhesive label reading Dutch / Old Mill on the / Maas. A second, smaller printed white label on the verso reads J Hamilton Glass SSA / Scottish Fl. 1890-1925.
