The works are housed in matching ornate gilt frames constructed from wood and plaster with reeded sections and laurel leaf borders. The first canvas is inscribed on the verso in black paint with the title A VIEW IN THE NEW FOREST. The lower stretcher bar of this work features a small cursive signature in blue ink reading merelles, which corresponds to the artist Thomas W. Lascelles. The second canvas is inscribed on the verso with the title SUNDOWN IN THE NEW WOOD.
