Late 19th Century G. H. Gledhill and Sons Wooden Cash Till - An antique English mechanical cash register till constructed primarily from mahogany. The rectangular cash register features hand-cut dovetail joint construction on the outer casing and stands on short integral feet. The front is fitted with a single pull-out drawer divided into multiple curved coin and note compartments, accented with a cast brass shell-motif cup handle. The hinged top lid opens to reveal a complex internal recording mechanism that includes a paper roll feed, mechanical levers, and an internal brass warning bell designed to chime upon opening. A partially missing printed paper instruction label is affixed to the inner side of the lid. The text on the cream-colored adhesive label remains legible at the bottom, reading G. H. GLEDHILL & SONS, LTD., TRINITY WORKS, HALIFAX or 153, CHEAPSIDE, LONDON, E.C. The top of the lid includes a small inset glass window and a brass slot mechanism.
