19th Century Byzantine Style Articulated Cast Brass Wall Hanging - A 19th-century articulated wall hanging ornament cast from brass with a dark, aged patina. The piece features a series of hinged openwork components connected by ferrous metal pins. The central element is a stylized figurative depiction of a warrior or saint in profile, wearing a pleated skirt and holding a handheld cross and a curved sword. This figure is joined to a large horizontal bar with bird motifs and scrolling openwork. Three separate pendants hang from the lower edge, including a central cross within a circular frame flanked by two double-headed eagles. The upper suspension hook features a series of five small circular impressed marks arranged vertically on the stem. These marks contain stylized geometric symbols or characters that are not legible as a name or specific script. Traces of a lighter gilt wash are visible on the raised highlights of the casting, contrasting with the dark oxidation and surface pitting found throughout the metalwork. Length: Approximately 10 to 11 inches.
