Bidspirit auction | A Set of Four Southeast
A Set of Four Southeast Asian Bronze Hintha Opium Weights - A set of four graduated opium weights cast from bronze with a dark, naturally aged patina. The weights are sculpted in the form of the Hintha, a mythical bird of Burmese and Buddhist tradition, depicted standing on tiered circular bases. Each figure is cast with stylized feathers, a rounded breast, and a prominent crest. The surfaces show remains of verdigris and oxidation within the recessed casting details. The largest weight features an impressed circular or star-shaped verification stamp on the side of the base. No other legible maker's marks, signatures, or inscriptions are visible on the smaller pieces. The set shows a progression in size and volume consistent with traditional standardized weighing systems.
