Bidspirit auction | A set of 18th Century
A set of 18th Century Double Crusie Lamps - A double antique wrought iron crusie lamps, also known as betty lamps, designed for burning fat or oil. The set is constructed from hand-forged iron and features a nesting two-part reservoir system. The upper pan, which originally held the wick and fuel, sits within a lower pan designed to catch drips. One lamp is fitted with a vertical backplate terminating in a decorative scroll or rams-horn finial and a rectangular slot. The second lamp features a simpler tapered backplate ending in a suspension ring and a twisted iron hook for hanging from a mantle or beam. Both lamps exhibit a coarse, dark surface throughout. No maker marks, signatures, or stamps are visible on the metal bodies. The primitive construction and hand-wrought decorative elements are characteristic of vernacular lighting from the 18th or early 19th century. Height: Approximately 5 to 6 inches.
