19th Century M. Champion Chromolithograph Print of a Bellowing Stag - A 19th-century color chromolithograph on paper, titled The Challenge, housed in a large Victorian oak frame. 40cm * 82cm The print depicts a large red deer stag in a bellowing pose within a misty Scottish highland landscape. The composition includes a smaller deer on a distant mountain crag and two black grouse taking flight in the lower foreground among dried heather and grass. The piece is characterized by a muted autumnal palette of browns, greens, and grays. In the lower-left corner, the name M. Champion is signed in red-brown paint. The bottom center margin is printed with the title THE CHALLENGE in block letters, with the word COPYRIGHT positioned directly below it. The artwork is set within a period oak frame featuring a tiered profile and an inner gilded slip with an embossed foliate and scroll pattern.
