19th Century Tortoiseshell and Mother of Pearl Calling Card Case - A Victorian tortoiseshell and mother of pearl inlaid calling card case with unusual Thistle Motif The rectangular case is constructed from thin, translucent mottled tortoiseshell panels over a wooden frame, finished with a hinged lid. The interior is lined with blue velvet and features an ivory or bone-trimmed lip. It is fitted with a silver spring-latch mechanism and a small silver hinge. The front panel is decorated with an intricate floral spray of mother of pearl inlay, depicting several varieties of blossoms, leaves, and a bird perched upon a branch. A small rectangular silver plaque is inset into the side edge, engraved with the cursive monogram initials G B. No further maker marks or signatures are visible.
