Bidspirit auction | Two Large Cast Gray Metal

Two Large Cast Gray Metal Relief Medallions - A pair of circular cast gray metal relief medallions featuring Roman numismatic and figurative motifs. The larger medallion is a cast lead or zinc alloy disc featuring a high-relief reverse design based on a Roman medallion. It depicts three standing female figures, the Tres Monetae, each holding a cornucopia and scales. The piece has a dull matte finish and a rough, unfinished cast edge. The second item is a smaller circular paperweight or relief ornament cast in the form of a lion's head. The lion is rendered with a flowing mane and closed mouth, showing significant wear to the raised surfaces. The reverse of the lion head is finished with a circle of green adhesive felt, which covers the entire base and obscures any potential maker marks. The larger medallion bears the raised cast inscription MONETA AVG across the upper field. To the left and right of the figures are the characters MON and G. No other maker names, signatures, or marks are visible on either piece. A chocolate confection is included as a visual scale. Diameter: approximately 5.5 inches (larger medallion).
