Bidspirit auction | Hand Carved Wood Horse Relief

Hand Carved Wood Horse Relief Wall Plaque - A hand-carved wood relief wall plaque featuring a dynamic equine composition that used to hang in the Old Mill Inn, Spinningdale The plaque is carved from a single solid rectangular slab of softwood, finished with a warm medium-brown stain and a protective semi-gloss coating. The relief depicts two horses in a spirited, interlocking arrangement, with deep carving that gives the figures a three-dimensional quality. The piece exhibits rhythmic, textured chisel marks across the figures and the surrounding background. The plaque features beveled edges with prominent tool marks that follow the perimeter. The reverse side remains unfinished, revealing the natural grain and two circular knots in the wood. A wire hanging assembly is secured to the back with two metal staples and a central bent nail.
