Bidspirit auction | Norwegian Magnus Aase Sterling Silver

Norwegian Magnus Aase Sterling Silver Viking Ship Salt Cellar - A Norwegian sterling silver open salt cellar designed in the form of a Viking longship with a removable glass liner. The vessel is modeled as a traditional clinker-built hull featuring a prow and stern terminating in carved dragon heads. The gunwales are decorated with a series of embossed shields on each side. The interior of the silver hull retains a gold wash finish, and the piece is fitted with a cobalt blue glass liner shaped to the contours of the boat. The underside of the silver base is impressed with a circular arrangement of marks. A crown symbol sits above the struck text 925 STERLING and NORWAY. This central marking is surrounded by a ring of twelve 8-pointed stars. These marks identify the piece as the work of silversmith Magnus Aase of Bergen.
