A Pair of F. Robson Dutch Windmill Scene Watercolors - A pair of watercolor paintings on paper depicting Dutch canal landscapes with windmills, executed in a muted tonalist style. Salvaged from a Big House visited by a certain Charlie. Each work is rendered in a limited palette of grays, greens, and browns, capturing the hazy atmosphere of the Netherlands. The first composition features a large thatched-roof windmill at the water's edge with a small sailing vessel moored in the foreground. The second piece shows a similar windmill structure with a distant mill visible on the horizon and a red-sailed boat partially obscured by the foreground building. Both paintings are signed ”F Robson” in the lower right corner. The signature on the first work is followed by three diagonal lines, while the second is underscored by a long horizontal line. Handwritten labels on the verso of the backing boards identify the titles as ”Off to the Fishing Ground” and ”The Home Port.” Both items bear a printed adhesive framer's label for J. E. Wilmot of Pitters Farmhouse, Chippenham. The paintings are housed in gilt wooden frames with double matting. The paper supports show significant toning and mat burn consistent with age.
