19th Century Mahogany and Marquetry Inlaid Slant Front Bureau - A 19th-century mahogany slant-front bureau featuring extensive marquetry and parquetry inlays. The desk is constructed from mahogany with a highly figured grain on the fall-front. The exterior features four long graduated drawers flanked by reeded quarter-columns that terminate in block feet. The interior is intricately fitted with a central cupboard door and four small drawers, alongside six pigeonholes with scalloped valances. Two secret vertical document drawers, disguised as inlaid pilasters, are located on either side of the central cupboard. Decorative elements include green-stained and natural wood marquetry depicting floral-filled urns and classical foliate scrolls on the interior door and pilasters. The exterior drawer fronts and lower corners are further accented with oval medallions featuring classical urn motifs and geometric banding. The writing surface is set with a central wooden panel that previously held an insert. Brass bail handles and interior ring pulls are present throughout, along with a steel lock plate and a single skeleton key.
