19th Century Mahogany Barley Twist Torchere Stand - A 19th-century Victorian-style torchere or plant stand finished in a warm brown mahogany tone. Measures 104cm tall and 28cm diameter The stand is constructed with a solid circular top featuring a tiered, ogee-molded edge and a central recessed panel. The structure is supported by four slender legs, each beginning with a square-section block carved with foliate scrolls. The central shafts are turned in a continuous barley-twist motif punctuated by ball-and-fillet rings, terminating in stylized cabriole feet with carved acanthus leaf knees and scroll toes. A secondary circular lower shelf serves as a stretcher to reinforce the four legs. This shelf features a central incised design including the characters E and P, though the remaining decorative scrolling is not legible as a specific name or maker.
