Bidspirit auction | Vintage Impala Skin Taxidermy Rug
Vintage Impala Skin Taxidermy Rug - A vintage African flat skin rug featuring the hide of an Impala (Aepyceros melampus). The hide displays the species' characteristic reddish-brown saddle along the back, which transitions into lighter tan flanks and a cream-colored underside. The specimen is complete with the remains of a thin tail featuring a dark hair tuft at the tip. It is mounted onto a traditional red felt scalloped border, typical of mid-20th century safari-style trophy taxidermy. The underside is fully lined with the red felt backing, which is stitched around the perimeter of the skin. No maker marks, taxidermy labels, or provenance tags are visible on the upper surface or along the edges of the felt border.
