Two 20th Century Metal Shell Fuel Cans - A set of two early 20th-century metal fuel containers of British origin including a two-gallon spirit can and a larger jerry can. The smaller container is constructed from steel with a rectangular profile and a single strap handle. The top features a brass screw cap. The larger container is a 20 liter jerry can made from heavy-gauge pressed steel with a triple-bar handle and a cam-lock lid mechanism. It features the characteristic X-pattern reinforcement on the side panels. The two-gallon can is embossed on the main body with the characters SHELL-MEX over LTD. The top handle features a stamped cartouche reading SCOTTISH OILS & SHELL MEX LTD GLASGOW and AGENTS IN SCOTLAND FOR SHELL MEX & B.P. LTD LONDON. The brass cap is embossed with SHELL and MEX. The jerry can features white stenciling that reads SHELL 194? and TRIM SHELL SAE. Additional vertical stenciling on the side and edges reads LUBRICATION and LUBRICATION BY SHELL.
