Bidspirit auction | 19th Century Chinese Brass Wash

19th Century Chinese Brass Wash Basin - A large Chinese wash basin or shallow charger crafted from heavy-gauge brass. The vessel is constructed with a wide, flat rim featuring a rolled edge, sloping sides, and a flat base. The interior displays a worn white metal lining, identified as tinning, which was traditionally applied to brassware intended for domestic or ceremonial water use. The rim is decorated with shallowly incised foliate motifs depicting pomegranates on leafy branches. The top center features the incised Chinese character 貴 (guì), representing nobility. To the right, the character 壽 (shòu) for longevity is rendered in a stylized script within a rectangular border, while a third stylized character is incised to the left.
