UK George III Copper Cartwheel Coin, 1797 - UK George III copper Cartwheel coin, dated 1797, struck at the Soho Mint. This piece is either a penny (KM# 618) or a twopence (KM# 619). The coin features a wide, raised rim with incuse legends on both the obverse and reverse. The obverse rim bears the inscription GEORGIUS III . D : G . REX . while the reverse rim is inscribed BRITANNIA with the date 1797. Struck by Matthew Boulton using steam-powered machinery, these coins were engineered with thick rims to protect the central relief from wear.
