A National Union of Mineworkers and Miners Federation of Great Britain Centenary Commemorative Plate - Commemorative ceramic plate marking the centenary of the Miners Federation of Great Britain and the National Union of Mineworkers, spanning 1889 to 1989. The circular plate is made from glazed white ceramic and features transfer-printed decoration in black, red, blue, and gold. The wide rim is inscribed with the names of the two organisations in black serif uppercase text. The central well contains a multi-coloured heraldic crest featuring a red field with a black shield divided into four quadrants. These quadrants contain gold-coloured symbols of the mining industry: a pit-head winding tower, a Davy safety lamp, a crossed pick and shovel, and a coal tub. The shield is flanked by two miners in work clothes and bordered by blue scrolls with the mottos THE PAST WE INHERIT and THE FUTURE WE BUILD. The acronyms MFGB and NUM are present, along with the dates 1889 and 1989. The plate is finished with gilt lining to the outer edge and the well. No maker marks are visible to the front.
