Rochemâil Enamelled Lava Stone Plaque Depicting a Hunter and Dog - A rectangular enamelled lava stone plaque produced by Rochemâil, France. The object is fashioned from a thick slab of natural grey volcanic stone, featuring rough-hewn and unglazed edges. The front surface is finished with a thick white enamel glaze characterized by a dense, intentional network of overall crazing. The central decoration portrays a seated hunter with a grey beard and hair, wearing a field jacket and boots, holding a shotgun and petting a liver-and-white spotted hunting dog. The scene is set against a background of green trees and autumnal brown ferns and leaves. The plaque is mounted for free-standing display on two slotted metal L-brackets which are secured by bolts passing through the body of the stone. The bottom right corner of the glazed surface features the printed manufacturer mark Rochemâil.
