This 2017 issue represents the first year the Krugerrand was produced in silver for bullion investors. The obverse features the profile portrait of Paul Kruger, former President of the South African Republic, designed by Otto Schultz, surrounded by the bilingual inscriptions SUID-AFRIKA and SOUTH AFRICA. The reverse, designed by Coert Steynberg, depicts a springbok antelope in mid-stride, with the date split as 20 and 17 on either side. A small circular privy mark above the antelope contains the number 50, denoting the anniversary.
