A Trio of Edwardian Fine Bone China Commemorative Colliery Plates - This lot comprises three fine bone china plates, each featuring gilt-trimmed rims, relating to the coal mining industry in Derbyshire. The first plate commemorates the Creswell Colliery, featuring a central hexagonal montage of numbered illustrations depicting various mine views and the legends N.U.M., 1985, and THE SHAFT WAS SUNK 1894 TO 1896. The second plate is dedicated to THE BOLSOVER COLLIERY CO. LTD between the years 1889 and 1947, depicting BOLSOVER CASTLE surrounded by the names of local pits including CRESWELL 1896, THORESBY 1928, and CLIPSTONE 1922, with a Hawker Hurricane aircraft at the base. The third plate is associated with the UNION OF DEMOCRATIC MINEWORKERS and displays mining machinery such as a SAMSON 15 and an EICKHOFF TWIN RANGER E.D.W., with banners for 1986 and 1988. The reverse of the third plate bears a blue printed mark with a crown over a circular device and the text EDWARDIAN FINE BONE CHINA. It also features a transfer-printed list titled FACE MACHINES USED AT CRESWELL, a printed monogram RB, and is hand-numbered 123 of a limited edition. No maker's marks are visible on the other two items.
