UK 1996 Elizabeth II 70th Birthday Five Pounds Coin - A UK 1996 commemorative five pounds coin, also known as a crown, struck to celebrate the 70th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II. The obverse features the third definitive portrait of the Queen by Raphael Maklouf, with the encircling legend ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA F D FIVE POUNDS. The reverse, designed by Avril Vaughan, depicts five ceremonial flags including the Royal Standard and the Union Flag positioned before a representation of Windsor Castle. The flags are flanked by two pennants struck with the years 1926 and 1996. The coin is of cupro-nickel construction with a milled edge.
