Zimbabwe 2001 Zimbabwe Mint Opening Commemorative Medal - A commemorative round struck to celebrate the official opening of the Zimbabwe Mint. The obverse depicts a Black Rhinoceros standing in a savanna landscape featuring grass and two bare trees. The legend encircling the design reads OFFICIAL OPENING OF THE ZIMBABWE MINT : AUGUST 2001, with the words BLACK RHINOCEROS struck directly below the animal. The reverse is not visible, however, the inner lid of the presentation case features a printed monochrome illustration of the Matobo Balancing Rocks. The medal is housed in a clear circular plastic capsule and presented in a hinged blue textured case with a dark blue velvet-effect interior. No hallmarks or stamped fineness marks are visible on the medal or its packaging.
