Bidspirit auction | A Large Carved Wood Sculpture

A Large Carved Wood Sculpture of a Recumbent Dog - A large hand-carved wood sculpture depicting a recumbent dog, possibly representing a Mastiff or Dogue de Bordeaux breed. The figure is stylised with deep, rhythmic horizontal and vertical grooves carved into the wood to represent heavy facial wrinkles and loose skin. The dog is portrayed in a resting position with the head raised, featuring a broad snout and long, drooping ears. The construction shows the natural grain and warm brown tones of the hardwood, with contrasting matte black stained or painted finishes applied to the eyes, nose, ears, and paws. The underside of the sculpture is not visible. No maker's marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
