Bidspirit auction | A White Metal Celtic High

A White Metal Celtic High Cross on a Connemara Marble Base - A decorative white metal Celtic high cross, modeled after Muiredach's High Cross. The cross features an open-work ringed head and a rectangular shaft, both heavily decorated with cast relief scenes and intricate Celtic knotwork. The crosshead depicts a central circular panel containing figures, flanked by panels showing zoomorphic creatures. The shaft is divided into multiple registers featuring scriptural scenes and interlaced patterns. The cross is mounted upon a polished green Connemara marble base of truncated pyramidal form, displaying characteristic serpentine veining. Stamped marks are present on the side of the lower shaft; these include a rectangular punch above an oval punch, followed by the vertically aligned capital letters IRELAND. The characters within the upper two punches are not legible as a name. No other maker's marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
